Refac acquired two affiliated companies, U.S. Vision, Inc. and OptiCare Health Systems, Inc. in March of 2006, creating the sixth largest retail optical chain in the United States. U.S. Vision has been engaged in the retail optical business since 1967, and is the second largest independent operator of optical stores in host retailers in terms of store count and the first in terms of the number of brands. OptiCare, together with its professional affiliate OptiCare, P.C, is a leading provider of professional eye care products and services in Connecticut.

As of July 31, 2009, we have 691 locations. 671 licensed departments, two freestanding and 18 eye health centers. We also operate two surgery centers, one of which is a laser correction center, and two manufacturing laboratories. Our licensed departments are full-service retail vision care stores that offer an extensive selection of designer brands and private label prescription eyewear, contact lenses, sunglasses, ready-made readers, and accessories.

On April 26, 2007, a group led by Palisade Concentrated Equity Partnership, Refac’s majority stockholder, completed a transaction to take the Company private.
